Coverage for massage therapy

If you’re going to use insurance for your massage therapy treatment, you’ll need a doctor’s referral. This can be your family doctor, a specialist, or a chiropractor.

Massage therapists don’t diagnose conditions, only doctors can. The doctor’s prescription gives the therapist the diagnosis so the therapist can treat the patient.

Types of coverage:

Auto: If you’ve been in an auto accident, you’re massage treatment is likely covered by your auto insurance, or the insurance of the person who hit you. Auto is usually comprehensive. It will often cover 100% of your massage therapy treatment.

Work Injury: Some massage therapy coverage is available through WA L&I. Call our office and speak to Sandy. She can go over your particular situation with you and let you know what coverage you have.

Medical: Massage coverage with medical insurance varies depending on the company and the plan. Call our office with your medical card so Sandy can give you more details regarding your coverage.

Self Pay: If you don’t have insurance coverage for massage, another alternative is to pay out-of-pocket. Because you’re not using insurance you wouldn’t need a doctor’s referral for this option.

Whichever option you choose, our staff will help you submit any paperwork necessary.
